I am lucky to have met so many wonderful like-minded and creative people on my journey through life, people who inspire me. It’s a real privilege to be the author of two books, Sensual Living published by Conran Octopus and My Greek Island Home by published by Penguin Lantern and Clearview Books. Working on these books has led to my meeting some really fab people.Recently I met author Karen McCartney. Her latest book published by Julie Gibbs at Penguin Lantern is called Superhouse; it showcases houses that have a strong connection with nature. I met with Karen for lunch and she told me about the house her and her husband, David built The Dangar Island House, on the Hawkesbury River. I immediately too a look at the website http://www.thedangarislandhouse.com and could not wait to book in. Matthew and I were in need of a few days away from our hectic Sydney schedule and this was the perfect retreat. The house was stunning, large, simple and light, nestled high up in the trees surrounded by gums, ferns and native plants. It was like living in a tree house. There was no need for music as we were serenaded by continuous birdsong. The views of the water and the sunrise were stunning. We connected with nature immediately. Matthew and I spent our time drawing, painting, reading and exploring this small island, a perfect mini holiday. Thank you Karen and David for the inspiration and for sharing your beautiful retreat with us. We came back with renewed creativity and completely invigorated. I hope you enjoy some details from inside the house that caught my eye. Happy 2015!

Last Saturday my beautiful niece, Jessica Lloyd married the man of her dreams. For me it is hard to believe Jess is even old enough to contemplate marriage, but old enough she is and the years since I first held her in my arms have passed far too quickly. Jess and I have always had a strong bond, perhaps it’s because she was the first of my nieces and nephews to arrive or maybe it’s quite simply because we share the same star sign, Virgo. Whatever the reason I love her dearly. From a young age I would take her off on little adventures and she would come for sleepovers when I was home from abroad. I used to phone her to ask if there were crocodiles under her bed, this always made her screech with laughter. Jess has always been determined, independent, caring and fun with a great sense of humor. She was a lovely little girl and now she is a beautiful woman. I captured a few intimate moments before she took my brothers arm and walked across a paddock to stand before the man who will take her on the next big adventure in her life. She looked so beautiful and I was so proud. The man of Jessica’s dreams will be revealed in the next post. Enjoy!

I renovated this mews house in London several years ago. We lived in it for a couple of years before selling it. I completely renovated it, starting from scratch with just 4 walls. I added an extra floor and inserted sylights into the roof. I also had also glass panels set into the outside terrace floor, letting light into the kitchen below. My aim was to make a small London mews house feel like an appartment. I achieved this by opening up the spaces and bringing in as much light as possible. As usual everything was painted bright white. The outcome was a serene, spacious liiving space which we enjoyed enormously. Photographs by Nathalie Preim

I renovated this appartment in Notting Hill several years ago. Matthew and I absolutely love it and lived in it very happily for a few years before moving to Greece. When I first set eyes on it, it was in a terrible state but to me the location, light, enormous rooms and the history could not be ignored. It was a great challenge and I love a challenge. All the windows were replaced, reproduced exactly as the originals but this time with double glazing. The floor separating it from the downstairs neighbours was heavily sound proofed and new electrics and plumbing were installed. I played around with the layout and added an extra room on top with two sets of double doors opening out onto a roof terrace. From the terrace there are views over West London and beyond. It is a truly beautiful place to live. From My Greek Island Home I look at these pictures from  and wish I could live in two places at once but being an Aussie girl I am drawn to open spaces, vast skies and a huge amount of sunshine. So for the moment Lesvos it is.  The fab paintings on the walls are by Matthew Usmar Lauder and the photos of the appartment were taken by Natalie Priem. The flat is now available for rental through Domas Nova. Claire Lloyd homes.

My Greek teacher Elpida asked me if I would come to the school and talk to a group of her students. Elpidia was preparing her students, 5 girls ranging in age from 12 to 15 for their English exams. I was thrilled to be asked and took with me my new book, ‘My Greek Island Home’ and my first book, ‘Sensual Living’. The girls were bubbly and enthusiastic and also great company and I talked to them about my career in London and also about my books. It was a lovely way to spend the afternoon and I enjoyed their company enormously. In fact I enjoyed their company so much that I invited them to come to visit me at home. Only 4 of them could make it and we spent the afternoon together. I took some photos of them and these are what I am sharing with you today. Enjoy! Thank you girls you were great fun and great models.

Heaven! I’m in heaven, I have just received the most wonderful parcel from London, via Matthew. My love of all things sensual is no surprise to most of you, especially those familiar with my first book Sensual Living. My dear friend Louise Barnetson, http://thestanleysupplystore.com is one of the wonderful people I met when I was putting together the book, and I have always been a HUGE fan. Louise has just finished putting together her fab collection and it can be found in the new concept area of Selfidges in London.  What a treat you can actually go in and not only see the collection, but, touch, smell and buy it. All her quality products are handmade in England with wonderful attention to detail. There are large pieces, a dresser, a tressel table and smaller gems, handmade brushes, napkins, leather and fabric cushions and floral scented candles. The fabric design on the cushion has been created by artist, Matthew Usmar Lauder and is a sophisticated and subtle organic design, which fits in with the collection perfectly. The napkins are made of my favourite fabric, linen and are generous in size and soft to touch. My favourite thing if I had to choose though, would be Louise’s scented candles. Louise’s favourite smells are of garden flowers and she has not been tempted to stray. The two scents I have are jasmine and rose geranium and there have been no corners cut in their production. The smells are rich and honest and I have to say the best smelling candles I have ever burnt and I have burnt more than the average person I assure you. They are also beautifully packaged in matt white glass with the simple, The Stanley Supply Store logo. My advice, get into Selfriges and visit The Stanley Suppl Store or go on line http://thestanleysupplystore.com, you won’t be dissapointed. Thank you Louise for sharing what you love and care about most and doing it with such style.

[wpvideo HfiSfttG]I love the light in MY GREEK ISLAND HOME, it uplifts me. It inspired me to make this film. My new book will be available from September 26, just over a week.Music created by Matthew Usmar Lauder.

Today I am lazy, I have not made the bed. I feel at some point I may be tempted to hop back in and steal some sleep. I have laid down a couple of times but could not resist my camera. So here are a couple of details from from where I lay. There is a wind which keeps me from relaxing.
