MY GREEK ISLAND HOME

MY GREEK ISLAND HOME

MY GREEK ISLAND HOME

Good news for all those who have been asking where they can purchase my latest book, ‘My Greek Island Home’. It is now available on pre order from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Greek-Island-Home-Claire-Lloyd/dp/1921382589/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362833571&sr=8-1&keywords=my+greek+island+home and http://www.amazon.co.uk/Greek-Island-Home-Claire-Lloyd/dp/1921382589/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1362835578&sr=1-1 This book is a very personal account of living in a village, on a Greek Island. It’s about the importance of community and the generosity of people. It’s about leaving behind a city life and finding joy in a simple life, surrounded by nature, animals and warm local people. There are stories of daily experiences and also a few of my new friends recipes. It has been the most wonderful experience documenting life here and I hope all those who have the chance to read it thoroughly enjoy it.

Todays dog walk was bliss. It was just like spring but without the spring flowers. There was so much warmth in the sun that I could sit on a rock and take off my jacket. The dogs loved it too sniffing everything in sight and taking their time to stop and take in the view. I felt so lucky to be living here in beautiful Greece.

As my wonderful time in Australia draws to a close I am reminded of beautiful summer days spent with gorgeous friends. These days spent on Stradbroke Island  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stradbroke_Island on the eastern side of Moreton Bay, close to Brisbane have been amongst my favourite. Beautiful lazy beach days with Dave, Rob, Matthew, Eddie and Lil. Thank you all for the time we spent together, so, so special.

photo-49 The first day of 2013 was perfect! A swim in the pacific followed by a casual dinner with friends. Hope all of you have  fabulous 2013! Matthew took these photos of me enjoying what I love best, a beautiful Sydney beach.

We visited friends on the weekend and I was inspired by a recipe my friend Stephen created. It was a tasty salad with pumpkin, coriander, spring onions and quinoa. Quinoa is a delicious grain with a high protein content. I had been to the local organic stall in Kings Cross, Sydney and had a few of the ingredients at hand. I tend never to follow recipes so I used what I had replacing the pumpkin with sweet potato and added pomegranate seeds, their jewel like quality shimmered on the surface of the salad. There were lilies on the table and their strong evocative scent filled the room. I could not resist photographing nature and nosh. A crisp green salad was a great accompaniment, fresh organic lettuce, steamed organic asparagus and crushed walnuts. What else do you need!

I cannot resist photographing flowers for me they are the most feminine things in nature. In Greek the word for rose is triandafilo which means 30 petals, isn’t that beautiful.

These beauties are sitting on my table. They started out a deep shade of pink but as the days have passed their colour has faded, they are still magnificent!
